Manchester Museum

I went to Manchester Museum today and it was pretty bloody good. It was great to see such a fine collection of taxidermy and bones. The display cases themselves are nothing short of breathtaking! A lot of artistic as well as curatorial skill is evident here. It's all very slick and cleverly presented to the point of installation art. As with many museums... not enough time!

The display here illustrates the evolution from ape to man.

This taxidermy room had me drooling!

That is all

Here's a lovely thing that happened today

My old friend Kelvin Slack of Prophesy Tattoo has decided, rather generously, to spend some time sharing a small amount of his knowledge. He threw me in at the deep end today and had me tattooing the leg of a willing if not overly optimistic volunteer. Luckily the results were not catastrophic! I think it's safe to say that this art form has truly gotten under my skin and I cannot wait to see what surprises he has in store for me next. Here's a LINK to the Prophecy Tattoo site.
And here's what Mr Slack said about it

Dylan lisle had 5 min training today and has never picked up a tattoo machine before in his life! Dylan is a pro Artist from Scotland who happened to pay me a visit this week...there has been talks for a long time about him becoming an ink artist...below is one of dylans oil paintings and also the tattoo he did today in 30 mins...

Dylan is now showing me how he develops his paintings and I am teaching him how to tattoo im sure our sharing of ideas will bring some good works...well done mate!

The scene of an entirely frustrating and fruitless day.

A truly lacklustre day at El Studio Diablo. After a hugely productive week, I found myself in the studio on SUNDAY! in an attempt to prepare things for the week ahead. It soon became apparent that I should have had a lie in and read the papers. My attempts to uniformly prime three canvases were thwarted by my own ineptitude, my ability to operate a printer was hampered by software updates and the linear progression of time had decided to discard it's own rules. The result of this compounded cosmic vendetta was, in short, fuckall...

Left the studio in a bad mood...

Three Blind Mice. Finished. Nice One.

I saw this in Figueras, Spain. It's a piece of jewellery by Salvador Dali. Creepy is not the word.

Loose Ends

I am trying to finish what I have started.

these wee fellas still need some work

these wee fellas don't
I bought these two Hawk Moths recently and I am enjoying having them in the studio.

An overdue visit

I scooted over to Glasgow at the weekend to spend a couple of days with one of my oldest friends The Talented Mr Steven Urquhart. I was invited to his home music studio for a well overdue catch-up and to make some music. Steve is both a talented visual artist and musician with an extraordinary ability to drag you into his own artistic mischief. His madcap approach to his creative outpourings is, however, underpinned by rock solid technical know-how and I was barely there five minutes before he had me singing into a microphone. An evil bit of Vincent Price inspired electronica and a hideously brilliant cover of Bowie's Changes later and I was back on a train to Edinburgh.

A funny and profoundly intelligent man. Steven Urquhart. Here is a LINK to his sonic cheekiness. Speakers to 11 please!

Today is a good one
